People often ask us what is the difference between a Cafe Blind and an Alfresco Blind?
Quite simply a cafe blind takes its name from the clear plastic PVC that helps create that warm intimate atmosphere you experience in the outdoor area of your favourite cafe or restaurant.
Alfresco blinds take their name from the shade mesh fabric that is used to enclose outdoor alfresco areas usually around the home.
Clear PVC is a total blockout fabric. It stops 100% of the wind and rain, it allows the sun to come in and blocks a small percentage of the UV rays all while you enjoy uninterrupted views. It is available in clear and varying shades of tint.
It is your cheaper and versatile alternative to glass. Versatile because it can be rolled up out of the way just like glass can’t!

Shade mesh fabrics cut out up to 95% of the wind and rain, while casting a shadow of up to 85%. They also can be seen through very easily, though at nighttime that ability is lost.
WeatherSafe have access to hundreds of different styles and qualities of Clear PVC and Shade mesh and have narrowed choice for you to what we perceive are the best quality products on the market to- day. In the case of Shademesh fabrics we use VisionTex and Outlook, two outstanding mesh fabrics with excellent UV inhibitors, inherent tear strength and a great range of colours.
In the case of Clear and tinted PVC the only choice worthy of our consideration is the Japanese made ‘Easislip’. WeatherSafe Rope and Pulley clears are made from hard wearing 1mm thick fabric while the Zipsceen track blinds are made from .75mm thick plastic.

So, what is the best fabric option for my WeatherBlock Blind?
In most instances, unless you are in a situation where you require 100% protection from the wind and rain, we would recommend the WeatherBlock Mesh for your outdoor areas. Simply because it is easier to maintain and doesn’t show the dirt and scratches that will inevitably appear through normal wear and tear over the life of a clear cafe blind. Mesh fabric will look better for longer and will stand the test of time.
But if you look after your WeatherSafe blinds be they clear or mesh we are confident that they will have a long life and provide the ideal solution to your outdoor weather protection needs.
